Multiple Cranial Neuropathies and Pupillary Areflexia Associated with Anti-GQ1b Antibody |
|
Abstract |
The causes of multiple cranial neuropathies are variable, including infection, inflammation or neoplastic lesion. They also can be a presenting features of the atypical variant of the Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS). In spite of careful clinical investigation, etiology often remains unknown in many cases. We describe a patient who presented with ophthalmoplegia with pupillary areflexia, bulbar dysfunction, and bilateral facial palsy after upper respiratory tract infection and had significant elevation of anti-GQ1b antibody titer. We suggest that pupillary areflexia should be recognized as another feature that may be present in conditions of the anti-GQ1b antibody syndrome. |
