Bilateral Brachial Plexopathy Following Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy - A Case Report -
Abstract
Bilateral brachial plexopathy following general anesthesia is rare and has not been reported in Korea. An 81-year-old man developed weakness of bilateral upper extremities immediately after undergoing cholecystectomy. Electrodiagnostic study performed 16 days after onset of weakness revealed bilateral brachial plexopathy. His clinical symptoms showed gradual improvement with rehabilitation treatment. We report a patient who developed bilateral brachial plexopathy following laparoscopic cholecystectomy under the general anesthesia. Careful positioning of the upper extremity with awareness of risk factors which are likely to cause brachial plexus injury can prevent injury and potential disability to the patients.
Key Words: Bilateral brachial plexopathy, Anesthesia
