A Case Report of Bilateral Sciatic Neuropathy after Sleeping with Cross-legged Position
Abstract
Bilateral sciatic neuropathy is a rare disease. We report a case of one patient with bilateral sciatic nerve palsy after sleeping with sitting cross-legged position who presented both buttock pain, calves hepesthesia and legs weakness. The diagnosis was established with clinical findings such as deep tendon reflex loss of both ankles, abnormal sensory findings below both knees and weakness of both ankle dorsiflexion and plantarflexion. In addition, electrophysiologic study helped to establish the diagnosis as in the following. Both H-reflex waves were not evoked and axonal involvement could be confirmed using needle electromyography in sciatic nerve-innervated muscles. The patient showed clinical evidence of recovery within 3 month period of follow up.
